Laura Louise White

March 7, 1913 - May 24, 1998

Laura Louise White, 85, residing on South Michigan Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away suddenly while playing the organ at Pine Creek Church of the Brethren on Sunday, May 24. Mrs. White was a self-employed piano and organ teacher. She also served as organist at Christian Center Cathedral of Praise for 42 years, and was organist for the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home for many years. She was born on March 7, 1913, in Argos, Ind. to the late Cecil and Orley (Lake) Zerbe, and had lived in this community most of her life. She was in the first graduating class of Riley High School.

 

On June 3, 1934, in South Bend, she married Russell William White, who passed away on April 13, 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Jo White Lee of Bowling Green, Ohio; two grandchildren, Guinevere White Lee of Clifton, Ariz., and Briant Hamor Lee, Jr. of Bowling Green, Ohio. Louise also leaves to cherish her memory a host of friends very dear to her.

 

She was a 42 year member and organist of Christian Center Church, a member of Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, North Liberty, Ind.; member and organist of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #569; Amaranth; White Shrine of Jerusalem, Daughters of the Nile, Aretas Temple, Michigan City, Ind. She also served as Past Grand Organist of Eastern Star for the State of Indiana; Honorary member of Musicians Union; and was organist for 15 years for Eastern Star in Rolling Prairie.

 

Services for Mrs. White will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, in Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, 69531 Pine Road, North Liberty. Pastor Norman Repogle will officiate. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, where members of Eastern Star Chapter #569 will conduct memorial services. Contributions in memory of Mrs. White may be offered to Pine Creek Church of the Brethren.
