Sister M. Leonessa CSC, 83, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday in the convent. She was born Margaret Mary Whiffen on Oct. 1, 1886 in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on May 17, 1912; received her holy habit on Dec. 10, 1912; and made her profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1914. She graduated from Our Saviour’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1922 and served there from 1913 to 1923. She then served in hospitals in Anderson, Ind.; and Cairo, Ill.. She had resided at St. Mary’s for about 25 years.

 

Services will be at 7 a.m. Monday in the Church of Loretto with burial in the Community Cemetery, Queen of Peace. Friends may call today at the convent where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today.
