SOUTH BEND - Gladys L. Whickcar, 97, of Miller's Merry Manor, Walkerton, formerly of South Bend, died at 11:31 p.m. Thursday in the nursing home. Mrs. Whickcar retired in 1971 from St. Mary's Academy, South Bend, as a cook. She was born Jan. 27, 1898, in Wayne County, Ky., and lived in the area since 1910.

On Dec. 16, 1917, as Gladys L. Hollars, she married Arthur C. Whickcar. He died Feb. 15, 1964. She is survived by a daughter, Marilynn Vadner of Stafford, Pa.; two sons, Clyde A. of North Liberty and James of McKenzie, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Conner of Wabash, Ind.

Services will be at 8 p.m. today in Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Private burial will be Sunday Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
