MISHAWAKA - Lorraine A. Wentz, 81, of Mishawaka, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2010, in her residence. Lorraine was born on February 9, 1929, in Braddock, ND, to the late Archie and Fanny (Isaacson) Nelson. As the former Lorraine Nelson, she married Ray Wentz on January 9, 1948, in Jamestown, ND. Ray and Lorraine shared 40 years of marriage together. Ray passed away in 1988. Survivors include her two daughters, Gail Crocker and Art Wuergler, of South Bend, IN, Penny (Rich) Spiak of Mishawaka, IN; and one son, Collin (Yolanda) Wentz of Niles, MI. Lorraine was a loving and caring grandmother and great-grandmother to seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Dorothy Kurtz of Washington, and a sister-in-law, Lois Lundgren of Bismarck ND. Lorraine was preceded in death by her son, Duane Wentz; grandson, Steven Lakes, and great-grandson, Alex Wentz; along with seven siblings. Lorraine and Ray Wentz moved to the Midwest in 1957, first settling in the Niles, MI area. Lorraine was formerly employed at the Simplicity Pattern Co. in Niles until the factory closed down. Lorraine moved to Mishawaka, IN, being a proud woman who was self-supported, owning a home and her own ceramic business as an instructor for over 20-plus years. Lorraine's hobbies were doing craft projects, knitting and sewing. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, dancing and listening to Bluegrass music. Lorraine was a wife, mother and grandmother who loved and cherished her family and grandchildren most of all. She was known for her homemade caramel candies that the family enjoyed immensely. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 27, 2010, from noon until 2:00 p.m. in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St, Mishawaka, with a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Michael Smith officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or to The American Diabetes Association .
