Donald J. Weigel

SOUTH BEND - Donald J. Weigel, 90, of South Bend (Woodland), IN, and Sebring, FL, passed to his rest on Sunday, April 15, 2007, after a brief illness. Donald was born in April 1916, the third son of Charles and Stella (Hahn) Weigel.

 

In 1936 he married Susie "Sue" Miller, who preceded him in death in 1984. In 1986 he married Ruth Daniels Murphy, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Nancy (Stanley) Sunderwirth of Columbus, IN; a grandson, Stephen (Elizabeth) Jenks of Cincinnati, OH; and a granddaughter, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Lemaster of Minnetrista, MN. Three great-grandsons, Jack Lemaster, Colton Lemaster and Alexander Weigel Jenks, will miss visiting great-grandpa's farm and climbing on his machinery. Donald will also be missed by his stepchildren, Randall (Mary) Murphy of Mishawaka, Robert (Kathy) Murphy of Granger and Ruth Ann Murphy of Mishawaka; by his step-grandchildren, Randy (Lisa) Murphy, Russell (Erin) Murphy, Tracy Murphy and Tammy Murphy, Brian Zbrzezny, Jill Ann Zbrzezny and Eric Zbrzezny; and by eight step-great-grandchildren, Michael, Cody, Morgan, Taylor, Ryan, Camryn, Katie and Nolan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Weigel Trump; and by two brothers, Carl and Glenn (infant).

 

Mr. Weigel retired from the Dodge Manufacturing Company after 40 years of service. His true vocation was farming the land originally settled by his grandparents. Don and Ruth traveled the United States as happy RV owners. They were members of the Indiana Gulf Streamers and the Florida Sun Gators. Don's life was long and well-lived.

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home on Thursday, April 19, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Rev. Dr. Joseph R. Baunoch officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
