Arthur M. Tschida (May 26, 1923 - July 20, 2002).

Arthur M. Tschida, 79, of South Bend passed away at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002 in Hospice House.

Mr. Tschida retired in 1986 from A.M. General where he was employed for 22 years. Art was a World War II Army veteran and a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church.

He was born on May 26, 1923 in South Bend to John and Mary Tschida. On October 23, 1949 in South Bend he married the former Helen Vogel who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters Patricia A. (Martin) Gersey of South Bend and Ellen Jenning of Mishawaka; a son Kenneth A. (Sue) Tschida of Leesburg, VA.; 9 grandchildren Jacqueline Tschida, Kenneth Tschida, Katherine Tschida, David Gersey, Daniel Gersey, Emily Gersey, Elizabeth Gersey, Sara Jenning and Michael Jenning; 3 great-grandchildren Christian, Trenton, and Bailey; a sister Dorothy (August) Van Paris of South Bend; and two brothers William J. (Pauline) Tschida of South Bend and George L. (Joann) Tschida of LaPorte. Mr. Tschida was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister Marge Wartha.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002 in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church or to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
