April 1, 1950 - July 13, 2012

GOSHEN — Larry David Troup, 62, of Goshen died Friday, July 13, at 6 a.m. at his home surrounded by his family after an eight-month battle with cancer.

He was born April 1, 1950, in Mishawaka, to David and Marjorie Troup, who survive him.

He graduated from Penn High School in 1968. Larry courageously served in the United States Army Transportation Division during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. On Sept. 1, 1984, he married his soul mate, Debra (Smith) Troup, who also survives him, along with his daughters, Jessica (Packer) Drake of Goshen; three grandchildren, Rielly Howard, Caleb and Collin; Carissa (Packer) Williams and husband Eric of Goshen; three grandchildren, Kirsten, Trevin and Mia; Lisa Troup of Mishawaka; grandsons Dylan and Tyler Lichkay, Laurie (Troup) Komlanc and her husband, Jason, of Indianapolis; grandchildren Savannah and Holden; son David Troup and wife Judith; grandchildren Ryan and Madison; and two sisters, Linda and Julie Troup, both of Tampa, Fla.

Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He fought bravely for his country and was a hero and a patriot. He was a self-employed heavy equipment mechanic with a strong work ethic and generous spirit. Larry enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, swimming and boating. Besides his first love, Debra, Larry’s second love was Jamaica. The inseparable couple made many unforgettable memories there. Their example of love and dedication, through the good times and bad, has been an inspiration to us all.

We are grateful for the love and support from all our family and friends during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Visitation and celebration of his life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen. His body will be cremated.
