SOUTH BEND - Sylvia M. Trace, 97, a longtime resident of
Hartzer Street in South Bend, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday,
May 20, 2008, in St. Paul's Retirement Community. Sylvia was born
on June 25, 1910, in South Bend, to Anthony and Mary (Ziolkowski)
Zakrzewski. She had formerly been employed with Wilson
Brothers.
On November 7, 1934, in South Bend, as
Sylvia M. Zakrzewski, she married Lawrence H. Trace, who
preceded her in death on June 24, 1967. Also preceding her in
death were five sisters, Esther, Evelyn and Rita Zakrzewski,
Loretta (Robert) Bilinski and Helen (Casimer) Rafalski.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen A. Brownell of
Jupiter, FL; her son, Thomas L. (Sally A.) Trace of Alpharetta,
GA; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and one
sister, Gertrude Fodroczi of Mishawaka, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008, in St. John the Baptist Catholic
Church. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral
Home, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests donations to St. Paul's Retirement
Community or to the Holy Cross Association.
