Osceola – Warren D. Townsend, 78, of 10277 Vistula, died at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, in St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend, after an illness of six months.

 

He was born on Jan. 6, 1898, in Osceola, and had lived there all his life.

 

He married Mary Viola Wordinger in Cassopolis, on Aug. 2, 1923. She survives with a son, Richard of Dubuque, Iowa; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Ray (Treva) Garwood, of Three Rivers, Mrs. Irving (Leona) Burkman of Arpeta, Calif., Mrs. W. G. (Pearl) Tate of Carlsbad, Calif., and Mrs. Sam (Evelyn) Catanzarife of Mishawaka, and two brothers, Forrest Townsend of Osceola an Elmer Townsend of Westville, Ind.

 

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Warned Funeral Home. Lodge 130, Free and Accepted Masons, of which Townsend was a member, will conduct memorial services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Townsend also was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church, and retired from the Bendix Corp. in 1965. He later worked at the County Line Marina, Osceola.

 

Lodge 130 will establish a living memorial in his name at the Masonic  Home in Franklin, Ind., memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the St. Joseph County Society.
