Joseph F. Toth (Jan. 18, 1918 - Jan. 13, 1999)

Joseph F. Toth, 80, went to be with the Lord at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13. As Jesus did during his final battle on earth, he accepted hardship courageously.

Mr. Toth was born on Jan. 18, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., to Joseph and Rose (Nagy) Toth.

In 1946 he married Katherine M. Solomon, who preceded him in death on July 5, 1991. Mr. Toth was also preceded in death by a sister, Rose Kate Toth; and by two brothers, Louis and Eugene Toth.

Mr. Toth retired from the Dodge Corporation-Reliance Electric Industrial Company on Feb. 1, 1982, after 18 years of service, and was previously employed by the former Studebaker Corporation for 20 years.

From May 1942 through Jan. 10 1946, Mr. Toth fought the good fight of faith courageously in Okinawa for his country as he served in the U.S. Army. He was a technician fifth grade (Tech 5), and received an Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Star, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon and a Victory Medal.

He is survived by a sister, Anne C. Frederick of Mishawaka, Ind.; two nieces, Patricia Willems of Mishawaka, Marilyn (David) Huber of Mishawaka and Long Boat Key, Fla.; and by a nephew, John S. Frederick of Mishawaka.

Mr. Toth was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, and American Legion Post 303, River Park.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, with Reverend Joseph Gaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, where the American Legion will conduct a military service.
