SOUTH BEND - Beverly (Smith) Torzewski, 81, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend. Mrs. Torzewski was born on April 16, 1927, in South Bend, to Edward Donald and Mary Grace (Nagy) Smith. Mrs. Torzewski graduated from St. Joseph Academy and St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, School of Nursing and was employed with St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, the South Bend Clinic, and Michiana Hematology and Oncology. She was a lifelong South Bend resident.

On June 14, 1952, Beverly J. married Alvin A. Torzewski, who preceded her in death on July 7, 2005. Surviving are her children, Mary Ann (Stanley) Korabek of Granger, Brian Torzewski of South Bend, Mark (Michele) Torzewski of South Bend, David Torzewski of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan), Jacqueline, Allison, Mark, Matthew, Michael, Kaitlin; and a great-grandson, Lance. Also surviving is a sister, Mary Ann (William Werner) Schwahn of St. Augustine, Florida.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, IN, where a Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008, in St. Jude Catholic Church, South Bend, with burial to follow in the Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Torzewski was a member of St. Jude Parish and the Daughters of Isabella. Memorial contributions may be made to The National Kidney Foundation 911 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
