Verl Mory Topping

V. M. Topping, 85, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, in Regency Place, South Bend. Mory was born on Sept. 26, 1916, in Fairfield, Iowa, as the son of the late Van and Nellie (Grant) Topping. Mory was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Ronald.

 

On Sept. 24, 1938, in South Bend, Mory married the former Virginia Gibson, who survives. He is also survived by their children, Suellen (Robert) Moynihan of Bloomington, Ind., and Leslie (Luis) Galup of South Bend; six grandchildren, Matthew Topping Moynihan, Ryan Topping Moynihan, Mark Alex Galup, Evan Elyse Galup, Luis Enrique Galup and Graciela Cecella Galup; and by one great-grandchild, Sabrina Payton.

 

Mory was the owner-operator of British Motorcycle Sales and Service in the early fifties. He later operated a service station at Jefferson and Logan. While working at Dodge during the day, he continued his avocation of car repair in the evenings. He retired from Dodge/ Reliance in 1982 after nearly 30 years of service, most of those years as maintenance supervisor. After retirement Mory was able to devote more time to fishing - something he had always enjoyed. In addition, he discovered golf and quickly became a regular at Juday Creek where he was among the first to play.

 

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 2, 2002, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth Street, Mishawaka, Ind. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, in the Hahn Funeral Home. Father Dan Scheidt of St. Pius will be officiating. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice House of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437.
