Lottie M. Tomaszewski, 93, formerly of Olive Street, South Bend, passed peacefully away on Friday, December 23, in Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. Lottie was born on June 14, 1912, in East Chicago, Illinois, as the daughter of Stanley and Mary (Derlinga) Sabaj. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a granddaughter, Laura Chudzicki in 1998.

On October 4, 1936, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, South Bend, as the former Lottie M. Sabaj, she married James Tomaszewski, who preceded her in death on July 14, 1996, and one great-grandson, Chandler Gaugler. Left to cherish Lottie's memory are one daughter, Dolores Chudzicki of Granger; and one son, James Tomas of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Sherri Marietta of South Bend, Brenda Gaugler of Granger, Jennifer Tomas of Chicago, Jamie Tomas of Ashville, NC; two great-grandchildren, Lance Marietta and Cara Marietta, both of Mishawaka; one sister, Bernice Szilagyi of New Carlisle, IN; two brothers, Edward Sabaj and Ted Sabaj, both of South Bend.

Lottie was a devoted caretaker and cleaning person for St. Adalbert's Catholic Church Sacristy and Sanctuary for many years. Lottie also volunteered for St. Adalbert's PTA, was a member of the Harvest House and Polish Women's Auxiliary through the church. She very much enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Lottie had a strong faith in God and loved her church. She was a good and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a good friend to many people.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service in the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. today, December 27, in St. Adalbert's Catholic Church, South Bend, with Rev. Michael Couhig officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Lottie's name to St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2420 W. Huron Street, South Bend, IN 46619. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, handling arrangements.
