Ida P. Toepp

SOUTH BEND, IN -- Mrs. Ida Patricia Toepp, 98, of Holy Cross Care & Rehabilitation, formerly of East Wayne Street North, passed away of an illness on Saturday, Nov. 13, in Holy Cross.

Mrs. Toepp was born on Oct. 28, 1906, in Rossford, Ohio, to John Wendell and Ida Maria (Fiske) Schiffgens. On Feb. 11, 1933, in Rossford, she married Burton Eugene Toepp, who passed away on May 30, 1980. They had moved to this area in 1937.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula A. (William) Allen of Montecito, Calif.; two sons, Burton E. "Bud" (Barbara) Toepp of Naperville, Ill., and Thomas A. Toepp of Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, Ind. Four grandchildren survive, Dr. Lisa Marie Toepp (Dr. Roger Pumphrey) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Julie Anne Gras of Spring, Texas, Paula Anne (Richard) Moore of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Laura Lynn (Charles) Gilmore of Treasure Island, Fla. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Kathryn Rose Moore and James Garrett Moore, both of Cedar Rapids, and William Kelley Gilmore and Charles Burton Gilmore, both of Treasure Island.

A son preceded her in death, James Edward Toepp on Aug. 31, 1993, as well as a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Kelley Gilmore.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, in the Holy Cross College St. Joseph Chapel, Notre Dame, Ind., with Rev. Kenneth Grabner officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the Mass (1 to 2 p.m.) in the church. McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Ida was a former member of both St. Anthony de Padua and St. Joseph Catholic Churches and was a member of the Christ Child Society. She played bridge at the former Indiana Club and Morris Park Country Club as well as with various other bridge groups.
