SOUTH BEND - Ruth M. Thornton, 76, of East Dubail Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, in Cheboygan Community Hospital, Cheboygan, Mich. Mrs. Thornton retired from the food service department of the South Bend Community School Corporation where she worked for 24 years as a cafeteria supervisor at Studebaker and Monroe schools. She was born on June 21, 1922, in North Manchester, Ind., to the late Pearl and Lloyd Bush.

On May 2, 1945, in Wakarusa, Ind., she married Wilfred M. Thornton, who survives. She is also survived by a son, Christopher (Patty) Thornton of South Bend; a daughter, Jennifer Thornton of South Bend; and by two grandchildren, James Patrick (Keri) Schmidt and Nicholas John Schmidt, both of South Bend.

Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church, 1412 S. Carroll Street, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
