Lula Mae Taylor

Mrs. Lula Mae Taylor, 82, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, who resided on Edison Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 1:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Lula was born on Sept. 28, 1919, in Milan, Tenn., to the union of Howell and Ora Burrows.

 

In 1937, as Lula Burrows, she married Kenneth Taylor in Milan. In 1940, coming from Milan, they moved to South Bend.  She was a member of the Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Mother's Board and the Missionary Society. She was employed in the food service department with the South Bend Community School Corporation for over 10 years. She retired in 1999 at Harrison School.

 

Her memory will be cherished by one daughter, Rita Lottie; one son, Artis Taylor, both of South Bend; 15 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 39 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Sturdivant of Milan; one brother-in- law, Ed Taylor of Toledo, Ohio, and one sister-in-law, Janie Meritt of South Bend; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Taylor; her parents, Howell and Ora Burrows; one daughter, Reba Phillips; and by one granddaughter, Regina Phillips Clark.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Taylor will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, in the Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Friends may call one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.
