Sister M. Christina CSC, died on Jan. 30, in Saint Mary's Convent, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind.

Sister M. (Mary Aurice Tardiff) Christina was born on Aug. 1, 1910, to the late Mark A. and Euphemia Mary Ouellette Tardiff, in Van Buren, Maine.

 

She entered the congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at Saint Mary's Notre Dame, Ind., on Aug 2, 1941, from New York City, New York and made her final profession in the congregation on Aug. 15, 1947. Sister M. Christina is survived by her sisters, Irene Hamilton of Skowhegan, Maine, Althea Smith of San Antonio, Texas, and Lucille Stevens of Akron, Ohio; and brothers, Dr. Donald Tardiff, East Weymouth, Mass., and Richard Tardiff of Whitesboro, N.Y.

 

Sister M. Christina began her teaching career in 1944 teaching French in Washington, D.C. In New York Sister taught in the grade schools and then spent many years teaching the grades including 7 and 8 grades in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio and religion and working in the treasurer's office at Dunbarton College, Washington, D.C. In 1974 Sister Christina came to Saint Mary's and was secretary at Saint Mary's College in the purchasing office and campus ministry. She became active in child care in Providence, R.I. for a year, and then moved to Alexandria, Va., in the Alive Childhood Center. In 1982 Sister was in the regional office, Mount Rainier, Maryland as office assistant until she moved to Saint Angela Hall, Kensington, Md. in 1986. In 1988 she moved to Saint Mary's Convent as a resident and entered into the Prayer Apostolate until her death.

 

Wake service will at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, followed by interment at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
