Richard H. Spitler, 75, of East Eckman Street, South Bend, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in his residence. He was born in South Bend on November 11, 1926, to Glen and Mary (Bird) Spitler.

On Oct. 3, 1953, in South Bend he married the former Mary B. Kohut, who survives. Also surviving are their four daughters, Jackie Davidson of Oktaha, Okla., Janeth Hollaway of Tippecanoe, Ind., and Judy Spitler and Joyce Baughman, both of South Bend; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Marvel Coplen of South Bend.

Richard was a W.W.II veteran and a foreman for Schafer Gear Works for over 20 years, then at Exacto Corp. for over 18 years. Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Mr. Spitler to Hospice of St. Joseph County.

Family and friends may call Monday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
