Anthony Paul Spinsky, 99, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2007, in Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle, IN. He was born on January 15, 1908, in Costello, PA, to George and Bridget (Granacki) Spinsky.

 

On June 4, 1938, in Chicago, IL, he married the former Florence Huffman, who preceded him in death on June 13, 1996. Mr. Spinsky is survived by three daughters, Judith Zerafa of Englewood, CO, Mary Means of St. Petersburg, FL, and Donna (Tom) Kuhar of South Bend; five grandchildren, Marie Silverstein of Denver, CO, Ted Zerafa of Herndon, VA, Thomas Kuhar of Boise, ID, Mary Zerafa-Loos of Long Beach, CA, and Andrew Kuhar of Chardon, OH; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Arin Silverstein of Denver, CO, and Lauren and Claire Kuhar of Chardon, OH. Four sisters, Mary Spinsky, Jean Buffo, Helen Carlson and Lucille Staab, and one brother, Joseph Spinsky, preceded him in death.

 

Mr. Spinsky moved to the area in 1942, coming from Chicago, IL. He worked for the Bendix Corporation before starting Michiana Store Fixture and Supply Company. He was the owner and operator of the former Anthony Monument Company. Mr. Spinsky was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council 553. He loved dancing, fishing and hunting, and was an avid golfer. The music of Chris and Bob was one of his favorite pastimes over the last few years.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2007, in St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, IN. Rev John Delaney will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN, and one hour prior to the service on Friday in church. Contributions in memory of Anthony Paul Spinsky may be made to the Homeless Center, 813 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46601.
