JAMES ALVIN SPENCE

Nashville, Tennessee

 

James Alvin Spence, formerly of South Bend, Indiana, now a resident of Nashville Tennessee, died in an accident while fishing  at Tims Ford State Park in Franklin County, Tennessee.  He left his home in Nashville July 4th 2004 to go fishing at Tims Ford State Park. When he failed to return home and his family was unable to reach him, they contacted authorities who discovered his body July 8th.  He apparently drowned when the dam at Tims Ford was opened and the alarm failed to sound the warning.

 

He was born October 13, 1946 in Texas, the son of Alvin O. Spence and Ruby Roden Spence of Texas.  Both have predeceased him.

 

On August 14, 1971 in South Bend, Indiana, he married the former Pamela A. Mathews.  Besides his former wife and best friend, he is also survived by daughters Aimee M. Spence-Taylor and Amanda R. Spence-Jackson and son, David Andrew Spence, all of Nashville TN.  Grandchildren Cassidy R. Spence, Arden R. Taylor, Blake, Breanna and Brandon Law.

 

A brother, Doyle W. Spence of Texas also survives.

 

James Spence was a Federal Court Reporter in Nashville TN and formerly a court reporter in South Bend IN before moving to Nashville TN in about 1983.

 

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

 

Services for James Spence were held in Nashville TN and military honors burial was at Midland Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on July 12, 2004.
