Mrs. John Spalazzi
Tubercular spinal meningitis was given today as the cause of the death of Mrs. John Spalazzi, aged 43, of 202 West 11th street, after fear was expressed that she had been a victim of sleeping sickness.
Mrs. Spalazzi died at 11:30 o’clock Friday night in St. Joseph’s hospital. A post-mortem was performed by Dr. A. S. Girodano, of the South Bend laboratories. He announced the cause late this morning.
Mrs. Spalazzi had been ill two weeks and was removed from her home to St. Joseph’s hospital six days ago when long periods of sleep indicated that her illness might be sleeping sickness.
She was born in Italy Feb. 24, 1890, and as Blandia Ferrettie was married in St. Bavo’s Roman Catholic church Oct. 2, 1921, to Mr. Spalazzi, who survives. She had been a resident of Mishawaka 13 years, having come here from Italy.
Survivors are her husband, her mother, Mrs. Marcella Ferrettie, three brothers, Guy, Telesfero and Eustachio Spalazzi, and one sister, Mrs. Primetta Spalazzi, all of Mishawaka. Two nephews and an adopted nephew also survive. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
