Margaret A. "Maggie" Snyder, 81, of Mayflower Road, South Bend, Ind., died following a lengthy illness at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in Your Home Assisted Care, South Bend.

Mrs. Snyder was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Winthrop, Mass., to Alvin and Guida (Guillison) Smith, and had lived in South Bend since 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lila R. Snider; and by a sister-in-law, Anne Kahn.

 

On Oct. 30, 1948, in South Bend, as Margaret A. Smith, she married Arthur E. "Gene" Snyder, who survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Patricia L. (William) DeClue of Lander, Wyo., and Diane K. (Jon) Sloan of Hollywood, Fla.; one son, Richard E. (Chantelle) Snyder of South Bend; five grandchildren, Duke, Rex and Erik DeClue, Hayley Ann and Quincy O'Bryan; two brothers-in-law, William L. (Peggy) Snyder of Warsaw, Ind., and Albert Kahn of Cassopolis, Mich.; five nieces, Kimberly Fennel of LaGrange, Ind., Beth Ellen Moran of South Bend, Sally Efremoff of Canton, Ohio, Carol Bieneman of Columbus, Ohio, and Kathy Rusk of Kirkland, Wash.; and by two nephews, Daniel B. Snider of South Bend and Steven Snider of Muncie, Ind.

 

Mrs. Snyder was a graduate of Medford High School in Medford, Mass., and Cambridge Hospital Nursing School in Cambridge, Mass., and received instruction in public health nursing at Indiana University. She served as an Indiana public health nurse, as a school nurse in Mishawaka, Ind., and as a Weight Watcher lecturer for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, South Bend, and the Morris Park Country Club, South Bend.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18th, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, with Rev. Daniel Berger of First United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory, South Bend. Friends may call one hour prior to the memorial service in the funeral home.
