Gilbert J. Snyder

October 3, 1887 – April 14, 1961

Gilbert J. Snyder, 73, of 60643 Orange Road, died in the Hillview Nursing Home, 601 Russell Ave., Mishawaka, at 10:30am Friday following a two-year illness. 

He was born in Crawfordsville IN, October 3, 1887, and came to South Bend from there in 1916.  On April 9, 1907, in Danville IL, he married Ida M. Stanley.  He was formerly employed by the Mastic Asphalt Corp, retiring from there in 1944.

Surviving are his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Kelley of South Bend, Mrs. Sue Riddarsporre of Edwardsburg, and Mrs. Mary Dee Ashworth of Parma OH; two sons, William P. Hardeeville SC, and Jerry of Muncie; 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. R.L. Cunningham of San Pedro CA, and Mrs. F. W. Plummer of Wabash.

Friends may call after 2pm Saturday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home and until the services there at 3pm Monday, Rev. Howard Wright, pastor of the Speedway Methodist Church, Speedway IN, and former pastor of the Sumption Prairie Methodist Church, and Rev. Joseph Newton, present pastor of the local church, will officiate.  Burial will be in Sumption Prairie Cemetery.
