Edith H. Snyder

Edith H. Snyder, 90, formerly of Quince Road in South Bend, Ind., passed away at 12 a.m. on Sunday, March 25, in St. Joseph Care Center/West, South Bend. She was born on Aug. 20, 1910, to the late Frank H. and Bertha (Schroeder) Thompson in Hebron, Ind. Edith had lived in South Bend since 1979, coming from Kouts, Ind. She formerly lived in North Liberty, Ind., from 1958 until 1976, and also lived in Lowell, Ind., from 1935 until 1958. Mrs. Snyder was retired from farming. She and her family had farmed in both North Liberty and Lowell.

 

On June 15, 1929, as Edith H. Thompson, she married Lawerance I. Snyder in Hebron. He died on Oct. 9, 1978. One son, Phillip C. Snyder of Kouts, preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2000. Three sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters, Carol I. (Lionel) Lear of Crown Point, Ind.; Shirley A. (Earl) Todd of Earlville, Ill.; LaVerne (K.O.) Foust of South Bend; one son, Gerald W. (Laura) Snyder of Lowell; one daughter-in-law, Joyce L. Snyder of Kouts; and by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Snyder was a member of Lydick United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Ladies Aid. She was also a former member of The Grange and the N.F.O.

 

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. (EST) on Wednesday, March 28, in Lydick United Methodist Church, with Rev. Kevin J. Buckley officiating. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. (EST) at Salem Cemetery in Hebron. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. (EST) today, March 27, in the KANIEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, and one hour prior to funeral services on Wednesday, March 28, in Lydick United Methodist Church, 26510 W. Edison Road, South Bend.
