SOUTH BEND: Donald R. Snyder, 75, of Mayflower Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, after an extended illness. Mr. Snyder was born on Nov. 5, 1928, in Niles, Mich., and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area.

 

On Nov. 25, 1975, in South Bend, he married the former Lucille A. (Walter) Bennett, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Wayne W. (Mary) Bennett of Granger, Ind., and John F. (Lydia) Bennett of Strongsville, Ohio; five wonderful grandchildren whom he loved and cherished, and three great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, and by a daughter, Carol J. Golupski on Sept. 9, 1998.

 

Mr. Snyder was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict. Don was past commander of American Legion Post 50 and was a member of VFW Post 9820 in South Bend. He was also a member of the Niles Masonic Lodge.

 

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, March 18, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, in the funeral home, with Pastor Sam Oliver officiating. Burial to follow with military rites at Mission Hills Cemetery, Niles. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to the St. Joseph County Heart Association or to the new Military Honor Park. The HANLEY and Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled the arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Snyder family.
