SOUTH BEND - Roger Smolka, 74, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in his residence. Roger was born on March 20, 1935, in South Bend, to the late Edmond and Wanda (Fisher) Smolka. On June 3, 1966, in South Bend, he married Patricia (Szczechowski) in South Bend, who survives along with their son, Bob (Mandy) Smolka of St. Petersburg, FL, two grandchildren, both of Florida, and by his sister, Pat Wisniewski. Roger served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was discharged in 1962. He was a graduate of Riley High School. He enjoyed gardening and fishing, and was a fan of Purdue. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, March 11, 2010, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 12, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. For those who are unable to attend the funeral Mass, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
