Marilyn A. Guentert Smith, 61, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Monday, March 25, in her home. She had been an area resident for the past eight years. Marilyn was born March 6, 1941 in South Bend, to Aloysius and Rosella Guentert. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Aloysius Guentert on May 7, 1979; and by two sons, Carl J. Smith on Sept. 15, 1999, and Scot F. Smith on Sept. 25, 1993.

She was a mother to her six children first of all. Marilyn worked for many years as an assistant manager and head bartender of the Old Mill Restaurant in Westminster, Mass. When she moved to Arizona in July 1994, she worked as a bartender at Sierra Suites and was the head bartender at Thunder Mountain Inn. Marilyn was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church. She was also a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in South Bend, Ind., in the class of 1959.

She married Francis W. Smith on Dec. 26, 1959, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Niles, Mich. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Francis W. Smith of Sierra Vista; mother, Rosella Guentert of Buchanan, Mich.; children, Richard W. Smith of Portland, Ore., Reine M. Smith of Winchendon, Mass., Sheela M. Smith of Ayer, Mass., and Katrina Leary of Worcester, Mass.; brother, John Guentert of Buchanan; sister, Marie Lovell of Fort Bragg, Calif.; and by grandchildren, Michael J. Smith, Taylor A. Smith, Cydney M. Smith, Kirtus S. Leary and Jacqeline K. Leary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of the Mountain Building Fund, 1425 Yaqui, Sierra Vista, AZ 85650; or to Casa De La Paz Hospice, 300 El Camino Real, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635. A memorial Mass was held at noon Wednesday, April 3, in Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, 1425 Yaqui, Sierra Vista. Arrangements by the Hatfield Funeral Home, 830 S.
