Death of Levi Smith
Mr. Levi Smith, residing in Warren township, seven miles west of the city on the Laporte road, died there Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock after a brief illness with pneumonia following the grip.  Before fully recovering from the first attach he went to see his brother, Martin Smith, near Warren Center, who was also very sick, and the effort overtaxed his strength throwing him into pneumonia of the severest form.  Mr. Smith was 88 years old and had long been a resident of Warren.  He leaves a wife and one son.  The funeral took place from the residence this afternoon at one o'clock.
Mr. Smith was a son of the late Christian Smith, who came here from Maryland in 1835, being one of the earliest settlers of the county.  His surviving brothers are Peter and Martin Smith.  All of the family have been residents of Warren township since their advent into the county and followed the occupation of farmers, being among the most substantial citizens of the community in which they lived.  The wife of the deceased is severely ill, as also, are his brother, Martin, and wife.
