Mrs. Irving (Florence)  Smith

     Mrs. Florence S. Smith, 62, of 2116 Bader, died at  1:50 p.m. Wednesday
at Memorial Hospital after a five month illness. She was  born on Aug. 28,
1918, in Monessen, Pa., and had lived in South Bend for 44  years. On Aug. 15,
1946, in South Bend, as Florence Schrager, she married Irving  J. Smith. He
survives with a son Frederick J. of Brookline, Mass; two  grandchildren; a sister,
Mrs. Jean Hier of New York City; and three brothers,  Bernard, Leonard, and
Allen Schrager, all of South Bend.
    Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Forest G. Hay  Funeral Home,
435 S. Ironwood. Rabbi Yisreal Gettinger of Hebrew Orthodox  Congregation will
officiate, along with Cantor Israel Israelov of Sinai  Synagogue. Burial will
be in Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery. She was a member of  B'nai B'rith Women,
Hadassah, Sinai Synagogue, and Sinai Sisterhood. Memorial  contributions may be made
to Sinai Synagogue, the Jewish Welfare Fund or  the charity of donor's choice.
