South Bend Tribune 12/31/2008
SOUTH BEND - Delorus Smith, 77,  passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, December 29th. She was born on September 15, 1931, to Clarence and Priscilla (Slayden) Stair in Kansas City, Missouri. Her family soon returned to their hometown of Batesville, Arkansas, where she was raised with her four brothers and two sisters. "Breezy," as she was known to so many, moved to Indiana at the age of 17. She started working at Bob's Bar-b-Que in Rolling Prairie where she met many lifelong friends and the love of her life, Carol Smith. They married on May 27, 1955, in New Carlisle, and shared 40 wonderful years together. On their journey they added two daughters, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Through the years Mom and Dad traveled, enjoying Hawaii, many trips to Las Vegas, and then after retirement spending winters in Sarasota, Florida. Mom enjoyed gardening, baking, playing euchre and scrabble, and golfing, but most treasured of all was the time she spent with family and friends. Left to cherish her memory and the love she shared with us are her daughters, Sue (Jim) Moffitt and Sandy (Ron) Colpitts; grandchildren, Abby (Gary) Rodich, Will Moffitt and Tony Hultgren; and great-grandchildren, Antony, Liam and Maya Rodich, all of New Carlisle; her brothers, Gary Stair of Deltona, Florida, Billy Stair of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Don Stair of Alexandria, LA, and Ron Stair of Batesville, Arkansas; and her sister-in-law, Betty Smith of LaPorte. Preceding Mom on the journey to heaven were her husband, Carol, and her grandson, Chad Hultgren.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 11:00 AM in the New Carlisle Cemetery with Rev. Irv Young of the Community Church officiating. A dinner celebrating her life will be held following the service at American Legion Post #297. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Carlisle Area Ambulance, P.O. Box 89, New Carlisle, or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
