John S. Skees

Jan. 10, 1872 – Aug. 21, 1939

John S. Skees, 67, of 213 North Frances Street, a recruiting officer for the United States Army here for the last 25 years and a retired member of the army, veteran of three wars, died in his home at 9:30 p.m. Monday after four months illness with a heart ailment.

 

He was born in Congress, O., Jan. 10, 1872, and came here 25 years ago. He was married in 1915 in St. Joseph, Mich., to Helen Embick, who survives. He leaves also a son, Charles Skees, South Bend, a brother, Charles Skees, New London, O.,and three sisters, Miss C. Dove Skees, Mrs Stanton Hobbs and Mrs. Foone Himmelman, all of Oberlin, O.

 

He served in the Spanish-American war, the Philippine war and the world war.

 

Friends will be received tonight in the residence where the funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Waldemar Goffeney, pastor of Zion Evangelical & Reformed Church, will read the service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
