Leo A. Sims, 88, of Cleveland Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away Wednesday, July 17, in his residence. Mr. Sims was born Sept. 17, 1913, to Leopold Jozefa and Jennaviva Johanna (Kovach) Simoncic in Peoria, Ill.

 

On Sept. 29, 1945, the former Mr. Sims married Pasqua DiPinto in Cerignola, Italy. She survives. He is also survived by their sons, Leo D. (Angie) Sims of Henderson, Nev., Anthony V. Sims of South Bend, David V. (Jill-Ann) Sims of Midway, Pa., John J. (Mary C.) Sims of Granger, Ind.; their daughters, Mary Ann (Gregory A. Sr.) Montgomery of North Liberty, Ind.; twins, Johanna (Michael) Rhymer of Kell, Ill., and Rosemary (Jerome) Hoffman of South Bend, Theresa (Mark Sr.) Ferency of South Bend; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brandon, Justin, Angelica, Rachel A., Sylvia, Frances, John D. Gregory Jr., Yvette, Aaron, Nicola, Marshall, Mark Jr., Heather and Breanna; great-grandchildren, Anna Rose, Jordyn, Noah Calvin and Isaac.

 

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 19, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Ind. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, by Father Terry Place and Minister Rick Laskowski in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Sims was in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. He received the following medals: EAME Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, Army of Occupation Medal in Italy, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal from World War II. Sims attended the University of Utah. He retired from Bendix as a carpenter in 1975 after 29 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #284 in South Bend, and attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Memorial donations may be made to the family.
