Mrs. Margaret M (Thilman) Shunk

September 14, 1919 – July 26, 1981

Mrs. Margaret M. Shunk, 61, of 815 N. Allen, died at 6:35pm Sunday at Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  She was retired from the Bendix Corp., where she had worked as a clerk-typist.

Born on September 14, 1919, in South Bend, she had lived here all her life.  ON August 23, 1941, in South Bend, she married Merle E. Shunk, who survives.  Also surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Patricia Bashaw and Ms. Christine Shunk, both of South Bend, Mrs. Mary Weiss of Grosse Pointe Woods MI, Mrs. Kathleen Mitchell of Granger, Mrs. Barbara Woodward of ST Petersburg FL and Ms Joan Shunk of Mishawaka; a son Joseph E. of Corpus Christi TX; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Rev. Vincent Thilman, CSC of South Bend.

Services will be at 10am Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church.  Rev. William Dorwart, CSC, associate pastor, and Rev. Paul Doyle, CSC, pastor of St Joseph’s Catholic Church and Rev. Vincent Thilman, CSC, associate of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, will concelebrate.  Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call form 2 to 4pm and from 7 to 9pm Wednesday at the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William, where the rosary will be recited at 7pm.  She was a member of the Holy Cross Rosary and Altar Society, the Harvest House, and the American Cancer Society.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Harvest House or the American Cancer Society.
