Richard N. Shoupe

June 21, 1921 - July 17, 2002

SOUTH BEND, IN — Richard "Dick" N. Shoupe, 81 years old, residing in Edwardsburg, MI, formerly of South Bend, passed away at 2:14 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Mr. Shoupe was born on June 21, 1921, in South Bend, to the late Clarence and Florence (Nichols) Shoupe. He has been a lifelong area resident.

 

On May 31, 1942, in South Bend, he married Lois Smith, who survives. Along with his wife, Lois, of 60 years, survivors include one daughter, Susie (David) Hendricks of Eagle Lake, MI; three sons, Richard C. (Wendy) Shoupe of Bonita Springs, FL, Thomas (Michelle) Shoupe of Granger and John (Cara) Shoupe of Watertown, WI; eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. One daughter, Judith Jelinski, preceded in death on June 7, 2001. One son, Robert Shoupe, preceded in death on December 24, 1962. One grandson, Jeffrey Pauwels, and two brothers, William Howard and Clarence C. Shoupe, have also passed away. Mr. Shoupe was the owner and operator of the Melrose Manor Nursing Home for 10 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church, South Bend, and served his country during WW II with the United States Air Force.

 

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002, at the Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood, South Bend. Rev. Don Dilg, CSC, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 19, at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Contributions in memory of Richard N. Shoupe may be donated to the Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood, South Bend, IN 46635.
