Francis Joseph Shortsleeve

Sept. 8, 1921 - Dec. 10, 2007

 

SOUTH BEND - Francis Joseph "Red" Shortsleeve, 86, originally from Elmira, N.Y., formerly of South Bend, passed away December 9, 2007, in Pennsylvania with his daughter nearby. Born September 8, 1921, in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of the late Frederick Francis and Anna Elizabeth (Ward) Shortsleeve.

 

He married Mary Kay Weaver October 12, 1946, in South Bend. She preceded him in death Oct. 31, 1985, along with a daughter, Ann Haahr in 1997. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Agostino of Hollidaysburg, PA, and Mary Comas of Ossining, NY; one son, Frederick Francis Shortsleeve II of Gainsville, FL; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

Mr. Shortsleeve was an Army/Airforce veteran, serving from 1944-1945. He graduated with a BS and master's degree from Notre Dame and later obtained a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve. Francis was the vice president, international, in sales and market development for the Union Carbide Corporation.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN, with visitation one hour prior. The McGann Hay Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
