Jean M. Riley (Nov. 5, 1928 -- April 14, 2006)

Jean's life began on November 5, 1928, in Dugger, Indiana, the daughter of Sylvester and Mabel (Eaves) Everly. She was a lifelong area resident. On December 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to John "Bud" R. Riley in South Bend. Jean worked for a short time at the Conn Music Company but was primarily a homemaker. She was a member of the Dowagiac Eagles and active in both the Eagles and the Dowagiac Moose Lodge. After her husband Bud passed away in 1987, Jean found a second soul mate in her companion Al Franz. She and Al enjoyed several years together.

 

Jean's family includes a niece, Ann and her husband, Jim Whitesel of South Bend; an adopted son, Allen Ray Riley of Florida; a grandson, Brandon Riley of Florida; a sister in law, Lois Everly of Mishawaka; Al's children, Lee and his wife, Connie Franz, Carolyn Baiers and Mike Magin and Joyce and her husband, John Scherer; and several other nieces and nephews.

 

Jean, 77, of Niles, MI, passed away on Friday April 14, 2006, in Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bud in 1987; her companion, Al Franz in 2005; three sisters, Bernice Kertia, Lorraine Everly and Jeri Scheif; and two brothers, Chester and Donald Everly.

 

Her family will meet friends on Monday April 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Groner Funeral Home and Cremation Service where Reverend Mark Thompson of Silver Creek United Methodist Church will lead her funeral on Tuesday April 18th at 11 a.m. Jean will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Garden in Osceola following the service.
