Donald L. Richards, 77, of East Ewing Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away after a lengthy illness in Vencor Hospital, LaGrange, Ind. Donald will be remembered as a servant of God, a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born on Nov. 24, 1922, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Richards retired from Uniroyal in 1978 after 35 years of service. He was a 44-year member of the Donmoyer Avenue Church of Christ, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Donald is survived by his wife, the former Helen L. Callahan. They were married on Aug. 15, 1942. He is also survived by a daughter, Sherry L. (Irwin) Hodgetts of South Bend; a son, Tom L. (Deborah) Richards of Granger, Ind.; two brothers, Norman "Bud" Richards and Clay "Bill" Richards, both of South Bend; six grandchildren, Tom and Andrea Hodgetts, Reggie, Mark and Cory Richards, all of South Bend, and Matthew Richards of Granger; and by four great-grandchildren, Amy, Donald and Noah Hodgetts, and Mackenzie Ann Richards.

Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Road. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.
