Private services were held today at Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., for Ovia I. “Jean” Rice, 84, of Medco Nursing Center, formerly of 2922 Miami St., who died at 11:50am Saturday in the nursing home.  Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Culver Military Academy.

Mrs. Rice was a buyer for Hudson’s in Detroit from 1926 to 1936.  She was born July 5, 1904, in McCracken County KY, and had lived in South Bend most of her life.  She is survived by a son, Robert V. of Phoenix AZ; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Lydia Stone of Kevil KY, Nada Gleason of Joliet IL, and Thelma Walker of Benton KY.  She was a former member of South Bend Country Club, Progress Club, the former Indiana Club and member of First Christian Church
