MISHAWAKA - Julie L. Refner, 81, of 14th Street, passed away at 10:43 a.m., Tuesday, in her home, after a lengthy illness in the presence of her family. She was born on Feb. 18, 1915, to Leon and Pharailde Goegebuer in Mishawaka, and was a lifelong area resident.

 

On Dec. 14, 1940, in Mishawaka, as Julie Goegebuer, she married Stanley Refner. He survives with two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and James Daniels of Rockwall, Texas and Kathe & Kenneth Rybicki of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Kevin Rybicki of Mishawaka, Kelly Streb of South Bend, Denise Royal of Camilla, Ga., Jeffrey Daniels of Bellinham, Wash., David Daniels of Bloomington, Ind. and Kolleen Rybicki of Chicago, Ill.; and two special great-granddaughters, Brittany Rybicki of Mishawaka and Taylor Streb of South Bend. Mrs. Refner was a member of BK Club Ladies Auxiliary, Uniroyal Retirees, Eberhart Womens Golf League, Mishawaka Penn Womens Democratic Club, St. Bavo's Church and DeAmicis Ladies Auxiliary.

 

The family expresses special heart-felt thanks to the visiting nurses of Hospice of St. Joseph County.

Cremation has taken place in St. Joseph Crematory, with burial to take place at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth St., Mishawaka. Wake prayers will be at 4 p.m., Thursday, in the funeral home. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka. It was Mrs. Refner's wish that contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc., 111 Sunnybrook, South Bend, IN 46637.
