George Raymond Reavis

George Raymond Reavis, 75, residing on Jackson Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Ind. Mr. Reavis was born on July 13, 1925, in Valley Falls, Kan., as the son of the late Arthur Melvin and Ida Mae (Isley) Reavis. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Reavis.

 

He had lived in the South Bend-Mishawaka area most of his life. Mr. Reavis retired from the A.M. General Corporation as an inspector following 23 years of service. He was a founding member of the River Park Lions Club where he served as president four times in 27 years. He was a member of the Clay Township Lions Club, Deer Run Church of Christ, South Bend, and served his country during World War II in the United States Army where he received a Purple Heart. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed the outdoors and his family.

 

On June 7, 1948, in South Bend, he was married to Betty J. Bruce. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 52 years, Betty; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Michels of Mishawaka; and four grandchildren, John C. Michels of South Bend, Kenneth P. Michels, Jeffrey A. Michels and Amy L. Michels, all of Mishawaka. He is also survived by a sister, Martha Reavis of Manistee, Mich.; and by two brothers, Melvin Reavis of New Port Richey, Fla., and Robert Reavis of Nunica, Mich.

 

Services for Mr. George R. Reavis will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin, pastor of Northway Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial and military services will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, in the Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend. Contributions in memory of Mr. Reavis may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Indiana, Inc., Bank One Center/Tower, 111 Monument Circle, Suite 3560, Indianapolis, IN 46204-5135; or to the Clay Township Lions Club.
