SOUTH BEND - Elder Joseph Peele, Sr., 82, departed this life at 10:20 pm on February 13, 2010 at Sanctuary at Holy Cross Senior Living Community. Funeral Services will be held at Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church, 601 W. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN, on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 2:00 pm and viewing will be 1:00 pm until the time of service. Final resting place will be at Peele's Family Cemetery, Rich Square, Virginia. Coleman & Hicks Funeral Home, Michigan City, IN has been entrusted with the arrangements. Elder Joseph Peele, Sr. was affectionately known as "The Usher", an only child, was born September 1, 1927 in Rich Square, Virginia, to Doris Peele. When he came of age he began working in various factories and eventually retired from the Dubin, Haskell and Jacobson Shirt Company. Elder Joseph Peele, Sr. was a member of Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church and has served the church in many capacities as an Usher, Deacon, Community Service Leader, Adventist Youth Leader, Sabbath School Teacher and Elder. He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his loving and devoted wife, Vera Peele, South Bend; two sons, Joseph Peele, Jr., and Irving Peele (Olie) both of California; One daughter, Angela Blake Peele of New York; one Grandson, Nathan Irving Peele, of California, three granddaughters, Michele Butler, of California; Chambre Peele, Pricilla Joy Alexander both of New York; Five great-grand children, Phillip Jonathon Bordemave, Christian Baron Butler, Brycen Michael Pierre Butler, Darryl Joseph Burn all of California, Elijah Harrington, of New York; Six Sisters-in-law, Five Brothers-in-law, many cousins, and a host of church Family and friends. Elder Joseph Peele, Sr. was preceded in death by his Grandmother Jennie Peele, whom he loved dearly, his Mother, Doris Peele, one Great granddaughter, Madison Briana. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation for "Evangelism" can be made to Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church, 601 W. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46601.
