“Prospector is Dead in Poland: Brother Informed of Former Local Man’s Demise Abroad.”

A former local resident and gold prospector in Alaska and California, Frank Niedzielski, aged 72, died in Kcynia, Poland, after two days’ illness and operation, his brother, Ignatius Niedzielski, 207 South Laurel street, learned Tuesday by mail. Death occurred Jan. 24.

Frank Niedzielski came to South Bend before his brother in 1889. In 1897 he left his city to hunt gold in Alaska but disliked the cold and went to California where he remained for 20 years. With $20,000 worth of gold he had found, he left for Poland in 1922 never to return again. He was an expert wheel maker by trade and had been employed by the Studebaker corporation in that capacity while residing here.
