Wayne H. Nicklas, 79, of Adams Road, in South Bend, Ind., passed away at 4:53 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, in Memorial Hospital. He was born on Dec. 29, 1921, to the late Otto and Beulah (Ashbury) Latimer in Veedersburg, Ind., and had lived in South Bend since 1940, coming from Veedersburg. One brother, Vern Nicklas of Veedersburg, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Nicklas was retired from South Bend Lathe after 23 years of service. Previous to that he worked for the Studebaker Corporation.

On Feb. 14, 1948, he married Mary R. Latimer in South Bend. She survives along with one daughter, Diane Nicklas of South Bend; two sons, Ronald (Barbara) Nicklas of New Carlisle, Ind., Jeffrey (Becky) Nicklas of South Bend; three grandchildren, Dallas, Sabrina and Amy Nicklas; and one sister, Marvellen Dunwoody of Logansport, Ind. Wayne's friends and neighbors knew him as an avid gardener.

Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 25, in the KANIEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m on Monday, Feb. 26, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, with Rev. Donald Bayne Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
