SOUTH BEND - Clara M. "Penny" Nickerson, 88, of South Bend, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Clara was born on November 26, 1919, in Piqua, Ohio, to Milton Richard and Mary Ellen (Lallemand) McKee. Clara came to South Bend in 1922 from Ohio, after her mother passed away. Clara lived in South Bend with her loving father and faithful sister, Margaret McKee. Her father passed away in 1947. Clara (Penny) was married to Ralph "Nick" R Nickerson in South Bend on Sept 1, 1945. Nick passed away in 1958. Clara Mae and her sister, Margie shared a home together until Margie passed away her in 2002. Clara retired from Northern Indiana Children's Hospital in 1984 after 25 years. She was very passionate about caring for her special children and missed them all very much. Clara was a great collector of many things but her greatest joy was adding a new cookbook to her massive cookbook collection. Clara is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Robert) Heeter of Osceola, IN. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Juliana (Matt) Crawford, of New York, NY; three grandsons, David (Lisa) Heeter of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jared (Cori) Heeter of Blandford, MA, Danny Heeter of Chicago, IL; and three great-grandsons, Tyler, Wyatt and Rylie of Blandford, MA.
