Lafayette Newsom

Lafayette Newsom, 73, was born on Feb. 3, 1927, to the union of Isaiah and Etta (Booker) Newsom in Greenville, Miss. He was preceded in death by a son, Sidney Newsom, along with three sisters and three brothers. Mr. Newsom served his country in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He moved to South Bend, Ind., in 1952. He was employed by the Clark Equipment Company until his retirement.

He leaves to cherish his memory five daughters, Rosemary Weems of Oak Park, Ill., Kathryn Newsom of South Bend, Janice Bush of South Bend, Yvonne (Mosel) Sharpe of Chicago, Ill., and Myra Newsom of South Bend; two sons, Charles (Barbara) Newsom and Everett (Barbara) Bingham of Cleveland, Ohio; 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation for Mr. Newsom was from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 1032 West Washington Street, South Bend. Services will be at noon today in the funeral home, where friends may call one hour before services.
