George Newbill

SOUTH BEND - George Newbill, 79, of 828 N. St. Peter Street, South Bend, Ind., departed this life on Wednesday, Sept. 23, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. He was born on April 5, 1919, in Thibodau, La., to the late Will and Annie Newbill. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Artie Mae, and by eight brothers and sisters.

 

He leaves to mourn his passing yet cherish his memory four daughters, Elsaray Newbill of Victoria, Texas, Carol Wright and Tanya Clark, both of Austin, Texas, and Patt Newbill of Atlanta, Ga.; five sons, George, Jr., of Los Angeles, Calif., Ronald of South Bend, Gary and Paul of Austin, and Keith Newbill of Alamogordo, N.M; a sister, Stella Brooks of Eudora, Ark.; 17 grandchildren, Tony, Adrian, Kim, Kenneth, Robert, Anasa, Rhonda, Elisa, Robbie, Miesha, Issac, Pat, Brenda, Vanessa, Cynthia, LaShonda and Tiffany; 24 great-grandchildren, Lakeisha, Cameron, Cassandra, Jylynn, Shanaice, Khalil, Christopher, Jennifer, Jessica, Emerson and Sydni, 12 grandchildren in Victoria, Texas, and one in Los Angeles. Mr. Newbill was blessed to have loving sons and daughters-in-law, Mrs. Sylvia (Gary) Newbill, Mrs. Mary Jo (Ronald) Newbill and Mr. Danny (Carol) Wright.

 

During World War II, Mr. Newbill served his country with pride and distinction in the U.S. Army. According to Army records he was lost for seven days in the European Campaign and went on to earn the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, four overseas bars, ASR Score and two Bronze Stars. He served his country well!

 

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, at Clark's Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held starting at 1 p.m at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Clark's Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
