SOUTH BEND - Betty Louise Nemeth, 85, of South Bend, passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008, in her home. She was born on February 14, 1923, in Mishawaka, the daughter of Fred and Helen (McFarren) Shreve. Betty is survived by two brothers, Jay Shreve and Connie (Judy) Shreve; and one sister, Roxanne Blair, all of South Bend; and her sister-in-law, Ann Locsmondy of South Bend, and her family. Sisters, Donna Kinder and Shirley Smith, and brothers, Clair "Reese" Shreve, Fred Shreve, Jerry Shreve and Leon Shreve, all preceded her in death. Her husband of 50 years, Alex Joseph Nemeth Jr., also preceded her in death on April 29, 2002. Betty was a 1941 graduate of Riley High School and worked at the Bendix Corporation for 43 years where she received many recognitions for her dedicated years of service. Even though Betty and Alex had no children together, she was "Auntie Betty" to all of her nieces and nephews. Betty will be remembered for her love of family and the many kindnesses to them. She loved to bowl on the Bendix League, golf, walk, and take trips to Brown County in the fall. She also enjoyed attending her husband's Army reunions. We will always remember her "vim and vigor" and her caring ways toward others, family stories of her youth, love of the church and gospel music. Betty attended Hillside Missionary Church, South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Ken Fetter, pastor of Hillside Missionary Church, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with Betty's family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, in the funeral home. Betty's family would especially like to thank her caregivers, Drinda, Mikki, Paula, Elsie and Roxanne, as well as her brother, Connie, for their help and loving support.
