Homer E. Moon

Granger, IN - Homer E. Moon, 77 years old, residing in Granger, passed away at 10:07 P.M. on Saturday, June 2, 2001 at his home.

 

Homer was born November 11, 1923 in South Bend to the late Ernest F. and Anna (Batik) Moon. He has been a lifelong area resident. On April 17, 1943 in San Francisco, CA, he married Mary Ann Fuzy who survives.

 

Along with Mary Ann, his wife of 58 years, survivors include; one daughter, Judy and Donald Smith of Wausau, WI; three sons, Dennis Moon of Granger, Gary and Gail Moon of Indianapolis, and Marty and Meg Moon of Granger; eight grandchildren, Jeff Moon, Kelley Hannan, Kristie Moon, Douglas Moon, Nicholas Moon, Jennifer Hannan, Bryan Moon, and Brian Moon; and one sister, Helen Horvath of South Bend. Three sisters, Marian Swilley, Margaret Andert, and Ann Brandt, all preceded their brother in death.

 

Homer retired in 1980 from Gates Chevrolet as a Service Manager and General Manager after 40 years of employment. A naval veteran of W.W.II, Homer served aboard the USS Anzio as an Aviation Machinist's Mate 1st Class in the Pacific Theatre where he was awarded twelve combat stars. He was a 1941 graduate of Central High School, a member of the American Legion Post 151 in Granger, VFW Post 360 in Mishawaka and a 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 553.

 

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 5, 2001 a the St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, Rev. William Neidhart, CSC, officiating. Military graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.

 

Friends may visit with the family from 3 - 8 P.M. on Monday, June 4, at the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, where a Rosary Service will be given at 7:30 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family one half hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.
