Lura Maxine Monroe

Dec. 5, 1922 - March 13, 2006

 

Lura Maxine Monroe, 83, passed away from natural causes at 7:40 AM on Monday, March 13th, while residing at Miller's Merry Manor in New Carlisle, Indiana.

 

Maxine was born December 5, 1922, in Anderson, Indiana, to Charles and Leona McGinnis. On June 20, 1942, she married the love of her life, Paul E. Monroe, in Daleville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on July 10, 2001.

 

She is survived by four sons and a daughter, Terry S. (Peggy) Monroe, Gary K. (Leah) Monroe, Steven M. (Diane) Monroe and Cathy Ann (David) Rieder, all of South Bend, and Jeffery D. (Cindy) Monroe of Greensboro, NC; along with 18 grandchildren, Dawn Monroe, Terry (Kathy) Monroe Jr., Tonia Coddens, Robert (Debbie) Monroe, Richard (Leslie) Monroe, Julie (Adam) Wable, David Rieder, Rebecca (Mike) Thompson, Tamra (Jeff) Wesolowski, Tina Monroe, Travis Monroe, Lisa Cates, Matt, Amy and Aaron Thompson, Tony Monroe, Nathan Monroe, Nichole Monroe, and 18 great-grandchildren, Eric, Tony, Nicholas, Cody, Brandon, Mallory, Casey, Hannah, Sarah, Tyler, Addison, Matthew, Emily, Katlin, Dustin Jr., Shayne, Aria and Elana.

 

She was always there for the family and worked hard to keep them together. She was in love with her family first and Elvis a close second. Maxine and Paul owned Idle Hour Ceramics at the corner of Mayflower Road and Lincoln Way West. After Paul retired in 1978 they moved the business to Hudson, Florida. In 1995 they returned to South Bend to be with their family.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, March 16, 2006, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, with burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 PM Wednesday, March 15, 2006, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, and from one hour prior to services on Thursday in the funeral home.
