Ralph R. Monhaut

Dec. 19, 1927 - Jan. 26, 1999

Ralph R. Monhaut, 71, of 5876 A. Road, Bremen, Ind., passed away following a lengthy illness at 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Community Hospital of Bremen.

He was born the son of Harry A. and Margaret Mary (Dundon) Monhaut on Dec. 19, 1927, in Mishawaka, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ellen Marie; a son, Michael E.; a sister, Ruth K.; a brother, Joseph; and two infant brothers, John and David.

Ralph was a farmer and a lifetime area resident of St. Joseph and Marshall counties. He was a graduate of the Madison Township High School Class of 1945, and was in the US Army Paratrooper 82nd Airborne from 1945-1947.

On Feb. 11, 1950, he married Irene (Mutti) in Bremen. Ralph is survived by his wife Irene of Bremen; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Barbara J.) Stillson of Bremen and Diane K. Monhaut of Chicago, Ill.; a grandson, Mathew A. Stillson of Bremen; four sisters, Margaret M. Williams of Granger, Ind., Helen E. (Clem) Smogor of South Bend, Ind., Cecilia A. (William) Dolan of Elkhart, Ind., and Joan I. Richard of Mishawaka; a sister-in-law, Martha A. Monhaut of Bremen; three brothers, Edward H. (Donnabelle) Monhaut of Nappanee, Ind., Richard E. (Norma) Monhaut of Bremen and B. Patrick (Joyce) Monhaut of Bremen; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen. Father Robert Dombrowski of St. Dominic's Catholic Church of Bremen will officiate. Burial will be at Bremen Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Mishler Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Community Hospital of Bremen.

Bremen – Ralph R. Monhaut, 71, of 5876 A Road, died at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday at Bremen Community Hospital after an extended illness.

 

Mr. Monhaut was born on Dec. 19, 1927 in Mishawaka, the son of Harry A. and Margaret M. (Dundon) Monhaut. He graduated in 1945 from Madison High School and served in the US Army 82nd Airborne from 1946 to 1947.

 

He married Irene Mutti on Feb. 11, 1950 in Bremen and she survived with two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Barbara J.) Stillson of Bremen and Diane K. Monhaut of Chicago; one grandson; four sisters, Margaret M. Williams of Granger, Helen E. Smogor of South Bend, Cecelia A. Dolan of Elkhart and Joan I. Richard of Mishawaka; and three brothers, Edward H. of Nappanee, and Richard E. and B. Patrick, both of Bremen.

 

A daughter Ellen M; one son Michael E.; a sister Ruth K.’ a brother, Joseph; and two infant brothers are deceased.

 

The family will receive friend from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mishler Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10:30 Saturday. The Rev. Robert Dumbrowski of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church will officiate and burial will be in Bremen Cemetery.

Mr. Monhaut was a retired farmer.
